Uperodon montanus - Jerdon’s Balloon Frog



This uncommon species is found in Wayanad district, Kerala. It inhabits low foliage in tropical moist forests of the southern Western Ghats of India.

This species is listed as Near Threatened in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/)

 


According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population size of this species is currently unknown.  Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 sq km. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large-scale agriculture and urbanization.
