This species is extremely rare. It is endemic to the Nelliyampathi hills of Western Ghats of India (mainly in Palakkad district Kerala), at an altitude of 1000m above sea level.

Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 sq km and the Area of Occupancy is less than 10 sq km (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group 2011). The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large scale agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism.
