Nyctibatrachus deccanensis - Deccan Night Frog



This rare species is endemic to the southern Western Ghats of India. It inhabits riparian inland wetlands and tropical evergreen forests of the Ghats, at altitudes ranging from 500m - 2,000m asl.

 

 

Conservation Status:

This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. Currently, the population size of this species is unknown. The Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 sq km, with a severely fragmented distribution. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due to large scale agriculture and wood harvesting.
