This extremely rare terrestrial species of Western Ghats is only found in a locality called Gundia in Kemphole forest which is in Sakleshpur district, Karnataka. It mostly inhabits moist tropical forests of the Western Ghats of India. Its breeding takes place on wet rocks in riparian habitats.

This species is listed as Critically Endangered in theIUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining and currently, its population size is unknown. As all the individuals were reported from a single location, its Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 sq km. The threats to its persistence come from habitat degradation due to intensive farming, timber extraction, and other human encroachments like tourism and road development.
