This species is rare. It inhabits tropical evergreen and deciduous forests and some non-timber plantations of southern Western Ghats of India (commonly found in localities of Ponmudi Hills, Wayanad,and Silent Valley in Kerala, and Saklespur in Karnataka), at the heights of 300m - 950m asl.

The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to forest clearance for plantation and urbanization.
