This endemic species is very rare. It inhabits inland wetlands and tropical evergreen forests of the southern Western Ghats of India (mainly Sriviliputhur, Indira Gandhi National Park, and Mudhanthurai Tiger reserve in Tamil Nadu, and Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, Ponmudi hills, and Athirimala in Kerala), at the heights of 600m - 1,000m asl.
