Raorchestes travancoricus - Travancore Bush Frog



This species is very rare. It inhabits shrubland and tropical forests of South India (mainly Bodanaikanur in Tami Nadu, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, and Vagaman in Kerala), at the heights of 350m - 900m asl. It is found to be extinct in Bodanaikanur, Tamil Nadu.

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population trend and population size are unknown. Its Area of Occupancy is less than 30 sq km. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due to large-scale agriculture, tourism, and commercial developments.
