This extremely rare species of the Western Ghats is only found in Andiparai Shola of Valparai in Tamil Nadu at an altitude of 600m asl. It mostly inhabits in a restricted forest patch, on leaf litters and stems of undergrowth.

Its Extent of Occurrence is expected to be less than 100 sq km, with all individuals in a single location. The main threat to its survival in wild is habitat fragmentation due to large-scale tea and cardamom cultivation.
