This arboreal species is very rare. It inhabits tropical evergreen forests of the Nilgiris (in southern Western Ghats of India) at higher altitudes upto 2,000m asl.

Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 sq km, with severely fragmented distribuion of individuals (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group). The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large scale agriculture.
