This species is extremely rare and endemic to the Anamudi summit, the highest peak in the Western Ghats of India at an altitude of 2,695m above sea level. It inhabits the peak's forests and bamboo thickets, it is mostly found on moss-covered rocks.

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining, with a current population size of less than 300 mature individuals. Its Area of Occupancy is less than 3 sq km and the Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 sq km. The threat to its persistence is unknown.
