Raorchestes ponmudi - Large Ponmudi Bush Frog



This endemic species is extremely rare. It inhabits evergreen forests of Ponmudi hills and Agasthyamala hills (Wyanaad District) in south Western Ghats of India, 1,000m above sea level.

This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. Its current population size is unknown and its Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 sq km. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat fragmentation due to tea plantation.
