Raorchestes griet - Griet's Bush Frog



This arboreal endemic species is extremely rare. It inhabits the montane and shola forests of the south Western Ghats of India (mainly in Munnar, Kerala) at 1,500m above sea level.

This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).


According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. It is abundant in number in the Munnar locality, but its Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 sq km (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, 2004). The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to tea and eucalyptus plantations.
