This Indian nocturnal and arboreal species is rare. It inhabits plantations and tropical forests of the Western Ghats (mainly the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu, Agasthyamala hills in Kerala, and some parts of Maharashtra) at the heights of 400m - 2,000m asl.
 
Conservation Status:

This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 sq km, with a severely fragmented distribution. The threat to its persistence comes from agriculture and timber extraction.
