This endemic species is extremely rare. It is mainly found in the mesic forests of Jabalpur District (23° 10'N; 81° 70'E) in Madhya Pradesh, India.

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. Currently, its population size is unknown. The primary threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to tourism, commercial development, and other human encroachments like logging and fire.
