This species is rare. It mainly inhabits the disturbed as well as undisturbed forests in Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, which resides on the southern Western Ghats of India, at the altitudes of 700m asl.

Conservation Status:

This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining and its population size is currently unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 sq km, with a severely fragmented distribution. The main threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due to large-scale Cardamom and tea plantation in the buffer zones of the forests.
