Nyctibatrachus major - Malabar Night Frog



This rare and endemic species of the Western Ghats inhabits the inland wetlands and evergreen forests at the elevation of 1,000m asl.

This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. Its current population size is unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 sq km, with a severely fragmented distribuition. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due large-scale agriculture, wood extraction, tourism and other human encroachments.
