This species is very rare. It inhabits inland wetlands and evergreen forests of the Western Ghats of India (mainly in Ponmudi, Athirimala, and Wayanad in Kerala, Kalakad in Tamil Nadu, and Kudremukh in Karnataka), at the heights of 300m - 1,000m asl.
