Nyctibatrachus aliciae - Aliciae's Night Frog



This species is very rare. It inhabits inland wetlands and evergreen forests of the Western Ghats of India (mainly in Ponmudi, Athirimala, and Wayanad in Kerala, Kalakad in Tamil Nadu, and Kudremukh in Karnataka), at the heights of 300m - 1,000m asl.

This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining, and its current population size is unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 sq km and its distribution is severely fragmented (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group). The primary threat to this species is habitat disturbance due to logging and timber extraction.
