Micrixalus kottigeharensis - Kottigehar Dancing Frog



These extremely rare endemic species of Western Ghats inhabit inland wetlands and forests. They are mainly found in Kottigehar and Bhadrea of the Chikmangalore district in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

Conservation Status:

This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).


According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining, the current population size is unknown. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large scale agriculture.
