This terrestrial species is rare. It inhabits the montane tropical moist forests of the southern Western Ghats of India (mainly in Kudremukh in Karnataka, Ponmudi in Kerala, and Kalakkad in Tamil Nadu), at the heights of 1,000m - 1,500m asl.

Conservation Status:


According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining and its population size is currently unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 sq km, with a severely fragmented distribution. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large-scale agriculture, commercial developments, and other human encroachments like human settlements.
