This species is uncommon. It inhabits inland wetlands and montane forests of China, Vietnam, and India (mainly in Nagaland) at elevations ranging between 1,400 - 2,350m asl. Currently, in Myanmar, its existence is uncertain.

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining, and its current population size is unknown. Its Area of Occupancy is almost 2,000 sq km. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to agriculture, dam building, and other human encroachments like logging.
