This species is extremely rare. It is endemic to the Nelliyampathi hills of Western Ghats of India (mainly in Palakkad district Kerala), at an altitude of 1000m above sea level.
Conservation Status:
This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. The current population size is unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 100 sq km and the Area of Occupancy is less than 10 sq km (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group 2011). The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large scale agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism.
