This leaf-littering endemic species is very rare. It inhabits the riparian grasslands and moist evergreen tropical forests of southern Western Ghats of India (mainly from Biligirirangan hills in Karnataka and Wayanad in Kerala), at the altitudinal range of 600m - 1,800m asl.
Conservation Status:
This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining. Its current population size is unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 sq km. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to agriculture, logging, and urbanization.
