This species is uncommon. It inhabits inland wetlands and montane forests of eastern Nepal, and northeast India (mainly in West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh), at elevations ranging between 1,500m - 3,000m asl. Its existence in Bhutan is currently less known.
Conservation Status:
This species is listed as Near Threatened in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is severely fragmented. Currently, the population size is unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 sq km. The threats to its persistence come from habitat degradation due to deforestation, dam building, and other human encroachments like logging.
