This species is very rare. It inhabits wet evergreen forests, inland wetlands, and riparian grasslands of two localities in Maharashtra (Koyna and Aboli) in the Western Ghats of India at elevations between 900m and 1,200m.

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining, and its current population size in unknown. its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 sq km. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due to agriculture and logging.
